Anorexic blog

What is an anorexic blog?

An anorexic blog is a frequently updated diary or report on the topic of anorexia.  It can provide information for or against anorexic behaviors

Anorexic blogs put to good use

Recovering and recovered anorexics have written about their journeys, trials, and tribulations with this eating disorder.  For many anorexics it is a cathartic release and constant reminder of the dangers associated with Anorexia.

Blogs can be put to good use offering support and positive role models for anorexics who are seeking some form of encouragement or help on the internet, but are too embarrassed or ashamed to seek help in person.

Some anorexic blogs that primarily focus on trying to cope and escape from the dangerous behaviors of anorexia include:

Overcoming Anorexia

Follow Kathy's journey as a recovering anorexic living each day and recounting the daily struggles and inner thoughts of life with anorexia nervosa.

Aida's weight gain food diary

Follow Aida and her efforts as a recovering anorexic.  She has published her food diary as well as her thoughts on recovering from anorexia.

Anorexic blogs put to questionable use

Unfortunately, for every positive-oriented anorexic blog there are 100 pro-ana blogs in existence.  Blogs that follow the thoughts of anorexics that promote this behavior disorder should not be made freely available on the internet without tagging and identification an content inappropriate for children and teenagers.

Steps you can take to protect your children

The internet is a wonderful and powerful tool, parents need to pay close attention to what their children are visiting on the internet.  Software tools and tips are available to restrict access to this content, and to actually see what your children are surfing for on the internet:

  • Check the browser history.  You can access the last few weeks of pages viewed on the internet by reviewing your browsers history cache.  In each type of browser their is an option in their tool bar to review the history of pages viewed.

  • Install filtering software.  There are several commercial software options available that can help you block access to internet sites deemed objectionable content.  Some of the more popular packages are Net Nanny, Cyber Patrol, and Cyber Sitter.

  • Install recording software.  This step is more involved and actually records a copy of every single page screen viewed on your computer.
